Motivation[edit]
Animals tracks can be quite distinct and thus useful in identifying presence of fauna in an area. The subject of this property is also intended to be unnatural objects too: footwear, tyres (vehicle track (Q42046202)), etc. located in/on physical feature (P706) would be an optional qualifier to allow tracks on snow, sand, mud, etc to be distinguished. - Comment @Dhx1: Good proposal. I wonder if we could do some other modelling to increase expressiveness, for example have items for tracks. That would fare well with Commons categories, e.g. capybara tracks (and link to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Capybara_tracks ) as a subclass of Rodentia tracks (linked to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Rodentia_tracks). That would allow also describing and querying for other track characteristics. Weak oppose until the alternative modelling is discussed TiagoLubiana (talk) 18:55, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
- @TiagoLubiana: I like this idea, thank you. Would has effect (P1542) be appropriate to use for linking a taxon with a track left by a taxon? Or a new property that is a subproperty of has effect (P1542) for the effect of a taxon leaving a track on a surface as it moves over it? I suppose then a "Capybara track" item could be subclassed to "Capybara track on mud", "Capybara track on sand", etc if someone really wanted to do so? Dhx1 (talk) 04:58, 30 November 2022 (UTC)
@Dhx1: I think has effect could be used, yes, Other option, even though it sounds a bit weird, is using found in taxon (P703) to link the track to the taxon. If we do it consistently, we can always change it in the future if the need of a new property appears. And I also think the subclassing would be a plus, if really needed. Or even for things like "female Capybara track" if that is useful to anyone. TiagoLubiana (talk) 12:16, 30 November 2022 (UTC)
