Popcornbot 6[edit]
Popcornbot (talk • contribs • new items • new lexemes • SUL • Block log • User rights log • User rights • xtools)
Operator: Popcorndude (talk • contribs • logs)
Task/s: Essentially Wikidata:Requests_for_permissions/Bot/Popcornbot_5 but with date of death (P570) rather than date of birth (P569).
Code: User:Popcorndude/botcode6
Function details: Loops through the enwiki categories for deaths by year and adds appropriate date of death (P570) based on that. --Popcorndude (talk) 19:47, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- Popcornbot 5 did not use the right calendar, as shown by this diff. Rather than approve a new bot, I believe the editor should work on fixing the errors introduced by Popcornbot5. Jc3s5h (talk) 15:18, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- I have modified the bot to use the Julian calendar prior to 1582. I will endeavor to manually correct the ~235 mistaken items. Popcorndude (talk) 21:04, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- It's not quite that simple. The calendar depends on where the event took place. For example, a 1600 death in London would be Julian calendar but if the death were in Paris it would be Gregorian. Also, Wikidata representation of years before 1 AD is totally broken and I would suggest no one add any dates in that range until it's fixed. Jc3s5h (talk) 21:39, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- How about if I mark everything before 1582 as Julian, everything after 1923 as Gregorian, and everything inbetween mark as Gregorian but save it to a file and then go over the items by hand? Popcorndude (talk) 00:22, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- That would work. You may find, however, that some areas are hard to decide, because countries with religious divisions sometimes switched one province at a time. I would also just not do any dates before AD 1. Jc3s5h (talk) 02:03, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- I forgot to mention, but it only does AD 1-2015 anyway. Popcorndude (talk) 02:33, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

- Since the errors are being corrected, I am inclined to approve this task. Please comment.--Ymblanter (talk) 06:32, 26 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- Please leave out recent deaths, i.e. all deaths in 2015, as users are adding more precise dates with external sources. --Pasleim (talk) 10:41, 26 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- I have adjusted the end date to 2000. Popcorndude (talk) 13:12, 26 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
