Norwegian List of Lights ID (P4055) is a simple authority control property to link Wikidata items to entries for fyr I Norge in the Norwegian List of Lights (Q29654690). This official database is operated by the Norwegian costal administration Norwegian Coastal Administration (Q6515314) governing body of beacon (Q7321258) in Norway (Q20). The database contains the complete list of Norwegian maritime navigation aids with lights in use.

Add this property

To use this property, you need to determine the identifier in The Norwegian Costal Administration List of lights: let’s consider the example of the Ulla fyr Ulla Lighthouse (Q908222); the number for this lighthouse can be found at:

[http://nfs.kystverket.no/fyrlister/Fyrliste_HeleLandet.pdf in page 335]/

The list is released in .pdf format only. And as a book on non-regular basis within two or three yeara span.

The ID number can be found with a search in the .pdf file •Fyrliste for hele landet The search must be done with out the word fyr i.e. Ulla and not Ulla fyr. The number for Ulla fyr, 345000 is . The identifier to use within this property is then found in the upper left top as a six digit number. The name of the lighthouse is marked with red. The list is released in PDF format only. while the remaining part of the URL is defined within the property page Norwegian List of Lights ID (P4055) using the formatter URL (P1630) property.

The Norwegian costal administation maintains this database comprising data of 7164 bodies (as of July 2017) and it is updated every morning; however, in roughly 1–2% of the cases there are multiple entries for the same lighthouse (amount estimated). This means that one needs to add multiple values for this property within an item, which in turn violates the single values constraint defined by {{Constraint:Single value}} on Property talk:P4055. Since exceptions from the single value constraint can be defined, this is not a problem.

In case of multiple values it is also important to set proper ranks for the individual claims. If all important information about a lighthouse is contained within a single profile out of the available profiles, then mark the important claim with preferred rank. There are cases, however, in which this is not possible and the information is distributed across multiple important profiles. All of them should use the normal rank. Deprecated rank should not be used at all, as long as the profile is available.

Generally the identifier will be used for former manned Ligthouses. But there will always be exceptions, probably will small other beacon (Q7321258) occasionally be added for historical and remarkable reasons. Most certainly sector light (Q787078) on Svalbard (Q25231)
Please also add empty Lighthouses which often do not contain much more than the name. Articles then created in other Wikipedias then can give initial information for starting such an article. to add content to database entries which are still (almost) empty.

Use this property

Within Wikidata this property is used to link against Norsk fyrliste to identify multiple items per person (via the unique value constraint, defined by the {{Constraint:Unique value}} template on Property talk:P4055). Identifiers can also be queried using the common query tools for applications outside Wikimedia.

On Wikipedias, there are typically templates available (such as Template:Infobox lighthouse (Q13384512) and others, see {{ExternalUse}} template on Property talk:P4055) which either store the same identifier locally within the Wikipedia, or take the data from Wikidata by using the {{#property:P4055}} parser function or more sophisticated functions of Module:Wikidata (Q12069631) and others. In case of the existence of a local value, one can also compare it to the Wikidata value and make use of maintenance categories, which are linked from the {{Property documentation}} template on Property talk:P4055. However, be aware that in case of an item with multiple claims, of which none is the primary one marked with preferred rank, you also might get multiple values if you pull this information from Wikidata.
