These are numerous. Charles Matthews (talk) 07:59, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Confusion of two MPs (forename of one with surname of another)[edit]

I've started striking these out as I disentangle them. Andrew Gray (talk) 16:53, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling issues[edit]

Other[edit]

  • Cyril Barnett [26] for Cyril Salmon, Baron Salmon (Q1148684) (Cyril Barnet Salmon)
  • John McCarthy [27], obvious date mistake of 1992 for 1892, for John George MacCarthy (Q18731355)
  • William Calderwood [28], for William Holmes (Q8012442). The story for Queenborough in 1830 given in the History of Parliament: "He also stood with Sir Philip Durham† for Queenborough on the interests of the ordnance and the corporation against the independent sitting Member, John Capel, and his colleague Thomas Gladstone, and apparently deployed every available device of electoral chicanery. Holmes topped the poll, but Durham and Capel were tied in a double return for the second seat. Although Holmes was constantly expected to vacate to exercise his option on Haslemere, he did not do so, to the annoyance of Gladstone, who at one point commented, ‘How inveterate a liar he is’. When the joint petition of Capel and Gladstone was considered under the auspices of the new Grey government, Holmes and Durham offered no defence, and the independents were seated."[29]
  • Alan Montagu Stuart Wortley [30], Alan Montagu-Stuart-Wortley, 5th Earl of Wharncliffe (Q26321453) meant by date of entering House of Lords, date of birth just wrong
  • Thomas Greer [31] has the wrong death date, by confusion with Thomas Greer (Q7790180). The MP for Carrickfergus was father of Thomas Macgregor Greer (1868–1941) the Trinity Hall graduate (ACAD); and I think we can rule out the father being born in 1853. http://www.thepeerage.com/p20942.htm#i209414 is credible about this.
  • William Holmes [32] (duplicate page) gives date of death 1861; History of Parliament 1851 [33].
  • Samuel Dickson [34]: according to enWP he sat for Limerick County, not Limerick City.
  • Samuel Stawell [35] is presumably Sampson Stawell (1785–1849) as found in the History of Parliament [36].
  • John Gregson [37] makes what is according to the History of Parliament [38] an erroneous identification with John Gregson (1805-1879) of Burdon and Murton, Durham, barrister.
  • James Baillie [39] is possibly spurious, as MP for Linlithgowshire 1832 to 1835. The History of Parliament page [40] for Alexander Hope (Q3012172) states that he was MP for this one-member constituency to the dissolution of parliament at the end of 1834.
  • George Robinson [41], date of death is 1909 not 1900, as referenced to ODNB in George Robinson, 1st Marquess of Ripon (Q333111).
  • Grizel St Clair (Q26718784) [42] seems to be a claimant to an attaindered peerage; she was never actually a member of the Lords

Site relocated[edit]

It seems the old hansard.millbanksystems.com site is now vanished, and the site has reappeared at https://api.parliament.uk/historic-hansard/. I've corrected the P2015 links accordingly. Andrew Gray (talk) 15:45, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
