Allow use of ORCID ID as arXiv ID

[edit]

(...) also accessible via an ORCID identifier, if you have linked an ORCID identifier to your arXiv user account, e.g.:

Users who connect their ORCID account with their arVix profile can also use their ORCID ID in the /a/ author URL string. Currently, the arXiv ID setup on Wikidata flags such instances as erroneous. I propose the property gets updated to allow for correct validation of such cases.

Note: Bear in mind that unless the author linked their accounts, the URL will return a 404 error (i.e., one can't assume that the use of the ORCID ID for arXiv authors will “always work”).

Support @Itorokelebogile: The information whether an ORCID ID can also be used as arXiv ID is worth storing, similar to how we store Directory of Open Access Journals ID (P5115) in addition to ISSN (P236). But more importantly, it seems that sometimes the ORCID ID is the only one available, e.g. https://arxiv.org/a/0000-0003-4954-4271.html. I suggest adding the qualifier issued by (P2378)ORCID, Inc. (Q19861084) if an author has both types of IDs to avoid single-value constraints, see example. --Dexxor (talk) 11:11, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
