Pseudo hierarchical dependencies
[edit]@Yiyi: Hi. If I understood correctly the discussion of the proposal for this property:
- its function is similar to located in the administrative territorial entity (P131) but for eclesiastic hierarchy, from down to top, until arrive to diocese (Q665487).
- all the items must have diocese (P708), too, in similar way to have country (P17).
- the diocese (Q665487) doesn't have P5607, as they depends directly from Vatican City (Q237)
However, there are some other intermediate entities (not formally hierarchical, but may be administrative, may be for coordination) between diocese (Q665487) and Vatican City (Q237), like ecclesiastical province (Q625160) or episcopal conference (Q637017). How do you think we must include this information ?. could they be as part of (P361) in the diocese (Q665487) item ?.
In the case of archdiocese (Q2072238) that is a diocese (Q665487) with a "special hierarchy" over others, must be included in the same solution?. Any other suggestion ?. Thanks a lot, Amadalvarez (talk) 07:29, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Amadalvarez! Thanks for the question :-) Well, episcopal conference (Q637017) is not an administrative territorial entity: it's just a "group of bishops". About ecclesiastical province (Q625160), I'm not sure, because they are groupings of dioceses, but dioceses are directly subject to the Holy See. And there are also Roman Catholic ecclesiastical region (Q1506541). So, I think there aren't intermediate entities between a diocese and the Holy See (but I could be wrong).
- An archdiocese (Q2072238) is like a diocese (Q665487): in most cases is the most important diocese of a ecclesiastical province (Q625160) (and the archbishop is head of the ecclesiastical province), so there are not territorial differences. But to be sure we have to ask Wikipedia:WikiProject Catholicism

- @Yiyi: Yes, we agree in the definition, and they really are not a hierarchical level, therefore, it must no be included in this property. However, as the episcopal conference (Q637017) is a group of dioceses, we need to know for each diocese what episcopal conference (Q637017) it belongs to, or it meets with. That's why I propose use part of (P361). Same happens with archdiocese (Q2072238), as it is a diocese cannot be the P5607 of any other, but as it is "preeminent among others", is good to know for each diocese what is its referenced archdiocese (Q2072238). Again, P361 doesn't compromise any hierarchy, but a relationship. And same for ecclesiastical province (Q625160) and Roman Catholic ecclesiastical region (Q1506541), because we need to know the link between each situation that really exist (as these statement exist) without use P5607, because, as you say and I agree, diocese -at least theoretically- repports to the Holy See. I hope to have explained it better this time. Amadalvarez (talk) 21:05, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
Broaden Scope
[edit]Based on https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Property_proposal/located_in_the_Islamic_territorial_entity I've changed the Christian "ecclesiastical" to "religious" for the English side of things at least. Vicarage (talk) 13:51, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
