Expand to all object ?[edit]

@Strakhov, Ayack, Peter17, Amadalvarez:

Hi,

I used this property on Q29154987 and saw afterward that it's only for geographical feature (Q618123) (per constraint). Could this property be expanded to all objects?

Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 16:34, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I see no objection. Ayack (talk) 16:43, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. OK for objects (NO organism (Q7239) and its subclasses). Amadalvarez (talk) 17:44, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Amadalvarez: that raise an other question: what value should we put in the constraint? I was thinking of perceptible physical object (Q337060) but it's too wide (it include organism (Q7239) for instance), is artificial object (Q16686448) ok? (I look a bit at the onlology and it seems right, maybe even better than the current geographical feature (Q618123) that include a lot of natural things where this property doesn't seems appropriate). Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 18:15, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@VIGNERON: Yes, artificial object (Q16686448) seems good. In fact, I just tried to avoid that somebody say that a person has preserved (Q56557591) or an animal looks ruinous (Q56557159). But, using commons sense (as you did with Q29154987), should not be a problem. Amadalvarez (talk) 18:23, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No objection either. Peter17 (talk) 19:53, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Ayack, Amadalvarez, Peter17: ✓ Done with artificial object (Q16686448), thank you all and don't hesitate to revert and ping me if something is wrong with my change. Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 15:35, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

All possible values[edit]

While the property page gives a few examples ("demolished or destroyed, ruin, in danger, preserved"), I wanted a more complete list of values, so I wrote this query:

SELECT ?item ?itemLabel WHERE {
  ?item wdt:P279 wd:Q55553838.
  SERVICE wikibase:label { bd:serviceParam wikibase:language "[AUTO_LANGUAGE],en". }
}
Try it!

Strangely it currently only returns one result, structure under reconstruction (Q63187954).

Any idea what is the problem? Thanks :-) Syced (talk) 12:34, 16 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Vojtěch Dostál: Your insight would be appreciated :-) Syced (talk) 12:35, 16 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Syced All possible values should be subclasses of conservation state (Q55553838) or their subclasses, but they are unfortunately instead modelled as instance of (P31), so we'll have to modify the query for now:
SELECT ?item ?itemLabel WHERE {
  ?item wdt:P31/wdt:P279* wd:Q55553838.
  SERVICE wikibase:label { bd:serviceParam wikibase:language "[AUTO_LANGUAGE],en". }
}
Try it!

Why / what to enter: "Point in Time" P585[edit]

User:Thierry Caro today forced P585 to be entered. But usually the state provided by P5816 is not a POINT in time but a longtime or permanent state. What should we enter if I detect a building to be destroyed? In my opinion P585 should be optional. -- Gerd Fahrenhorst (talk) 12:06, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
