Newspaper.com and "archives at" (P485)[edit]
This property has a constraint requiring archives at (P485). I believe that constraint is entirely misguided.
archives at (P485) refers not to archives of newspapers, but to institutional or personal archives. There can be such archives of institutions that happen to be newspapers. But they will contain not (just) copies of old papers, but–as with other uses of archives at (P485)–the entirety of an institution's (paper-based) artefacts, i. e. the documents they amassed creating the papers. That would usually be a research institution or library, and hell will freeze over before The New York Times entrusts its archives to "newspaper.com".
See the examples on archives at (P485): Johann Sebastian Bach (Q1339)archives at (P485)Bach-Archiv Leipzig (Q798038). That indicates a place where I will not just get to buy overpriced faksimiles of sheet music that is out of copyright protection. Instead, it's research institute allowing access to Bach's private correspondance etc.
If one insists on promoting this somewhat parasitic business, there is also newspaper archive URL (P7213) which may be appropriate. But one statement, which includes a link already, seems plenty. As it's being used right now, there tend to be three identical links to that website. I'll also note the quality of data at that website is horrible: they have more duplicates than OpenLibrary and cebwiki combined.
I'll remove the constraint now and existing statements at some later date, unless someone objects or a newspaper.com hitman finds me first. --Matthias Winkelmann (talk) 14:42, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
ID has formulated in examples and items does not resolve correctly[edit]
The ID as formulated in the examples (and as required in items) does not resolve correctly. It goes to a generic site--in my case to a site with my university's name at the top but without the newspaper that is supposedly being linked to.Mgrenci (talk) 16:44, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
