These records, which form a series within the Armand H. Griffith Records, document the founding and early history of the Detroit Museum of Art, which had its origin in the Detroit Art Loan Exhibition of 1883. They include minutes of the Detroit Art Loan Association, and correspondence. The materials are augmented by scrapbook items, published handbooks and ephemeral materials held by the archives. Although contained within the Griffith (Directors') records of the Detroit Museum of Art, they predate his tenure. (English)
