These records are primarily the administrative correspondence of Willis F. Woods as director of the Detroit Institute of Arts, executive director of the Founders Society and curator of Oriental art. They also include correspondence with various aspects of the South and North win dedication, correspondence which document the establishment and early development of the African Art gallery of the Detroit Institute of Artsas well as the African Art Gallery Committee (Friends of African Art) as an auxiliary of the Founders Society Detroit Institute of Artsand the establishment of Project Outreach program.
