Girl Drowns in Bergen Lake. Jersey City Child's Body Recovered from Crestwood Lake. Allendale, New Jersey (Associated Press) Mary Furey, 12, of 48 Danforth Avenue, Jersey City, drowned in eight feet of water yesterday in Crestwood Lake after the place had been closed down and money refunded to customers because of an approaching storm. The child was on an outing with her grandmother, Mrs. James Gelschion her aunt, Mrs. M. James Cryan; three cousins, and friends. The body was recovered after an hour's search by Lou Epples, Rutgers football player and lifeguard at the beach; Arthur Erd of Newark and Police Chief William J. Reimer. The Furey girl and her cousins were playing in the water. When Mrs. Gelschion asked the child's cousins where Mary was, they said they thought she was with the grandmother and aunt. She was pronounced dead by Dr. Fred Kenning of Allendale. The child is the daughter of Mrs. Winifred Furey (nee Gelshion) and the late John Furey. Besides her mother she is survived by her brothers, Joseph and John, and a sister, Winifred. The funeral will be held Friday. (English)
