Overall, his private library encompassed approximately 20,000 books, with about half consisting of art books but also Judaica.25 According to the recollections of his son, Leo Gens, among his collection were incunabula and plenty of French books illustrated with the 18th century engravings in original. His collection also comprised many paintings by Estonian, Baltic, German, Russian artists and old masters, icons, about 5,000 graphic sheets, 3,000 bookplates, many objects of applied art, as well as Japanese ivories, Chinese ceramics, porcelain and ivory pieces, Netsuke and a miniature collection.26 In addition, Julius Genss owned the only complete collection of catalogs of Estonian art exhibitions and several thousand ex-libris.27 (English)
