Itinatag ang bayan ng Morong noong 1578 at naging kabisera nang itatag ang Distrito Politico-Militar ng Morong noong 1853. Ang distrito ay naging lalawigan ng Rizal noong 1901. Ang gusaling ito na kilala sa tawag na “Commandancia” ay itinayo noong 1880–1881, sa panahon ni G. Mauricio Mata Cruz, gobernadorsilyo ng bayan. (Tagalog)
