    The historical marker is located on the east face of the pedestal holding an equestrian statue of Gabriela Silang. (English)

    In this municipality of Santa, Barrio Canniogan, Ilocos Sur, was born Maria Josefa Gabriela Silang ca. 1723. Wife of Diego Silang, leader of the Ilocos Revolt, she continued with the uprising after his assassination. She was later captured by the Spanish authorities and executed on September 20, 1763. She was the first woman to lead a revolt in the Philippines. (English)
