In Gapun, a language shift is currently underway from the village vernacular -a Papuan language called Taiap - to Tok Pisin, the creole language that has becomePapua New Guinea's most widely spoken national language. Children are no longerlearning the vernacular, and no one under 14 years of age actively commands it. (English)
