Itinatag ng mga paring Agustino bilang Parokya ni San Nicolas de Tolentino kasabay ng pagiging bayan ng Macabebe, 1575. Itinayo ang unang gusaling yari sa ladrilyo, 1576–1578. Nilakihan ang gusali, 1864. Nawasak ng lindol na agad ding kinumpuni, 1880. Naging himpilan ng Comandancia General del Centro y Norte de Luzon ng Hukbong Espanyol, 16 Hunyo 1898. Nakubkob kasama ng buong bayan, 28 Hunyo 1898, at sinunog ng mga rebolusyonaryo, 29 Abril 1899. Kinumpuni mula sa mga guho, 1904 at 1935–1938. Naging himpilan ng hukbong hapon, 1942–1945. Nakuha ng hukbong Pilipino at Amerikano, Enero 1945. (Tagalog)
