Nag-aral sa Ateneo; Batsilyer sa Batas, U.P.; nagsagawa ng ibayong pag-aaral sa Batas, Harvard, Muling itinatag ang El Tiempo at Iloilo Times upang labanan ang katiwalian. Itinatag, bukod sa iba pa, ang Iloilo Shipping Panay Autobus, Iloilo Negros Air Express, Far East Air Transport, Philippine Portland Cement, Chronicle Broadcasting Network, Benpres Corporation, Eugenio Lopez Foundation at Lopez Museum. Natamo ang Manila Chronicle, Alto Broadcasting System, Binalbagan-Isabela Sugar Company, Pampanga Sugar Mills, Philippine Telephone and Telegraph Company, at ang Manila Electric Company na kanyang natamo buhat sa mga Amerikano sa pamamagitan ng Meralco Securities Corporation na kanyang itinatag, ngayo’y First Philippine Holdings Corporation.
