Discussion: As a starter, in respect of the principal surname in the descent, it is notable that searching for "Taylor-Berkeley" or "Taylor Berkeley" there are

  • no hits on Google Books
  • no hits on Google Scholar (other than those where Berkeley is the university or the philosopher)
  • no hits on FreeBMD
  • no hits on FamilySearch (other than a handful of irrelevant modern ones, found when searching with first name Taylor and family name Berkeley)
  • no hits in the London Gazette [1], where major civil and military appointments would have been recorded (other than a company called Taylor Berkeley in 2010)
  • no useful hits at the British Newspaper Archive ([2] -- most usefully sampled by limiting to decade by decade)

Claims in detail[edit]

(NOTE: The archived entries from The Peerage also include material from two later submissions to the site, identified as

[S8854] Margaret Holden-Johnson, "re: Taylor Family," e-mail message to Darryl Roger LUNDY (101053), 12 Nov 2019. Hereinafter cited as "re: Taylor Family."
[S8814] Harry Berkeley, "re: Brisco Family," e-mail message to Darryl Roger LUNDY (101053), 20 August 2019. Hereinafter cited as "re: Brisco Family."

These were added to the site later than the date it was extracted wikidata, so the additional material and individuals in these emails were never added here.)

"Thomas John Taylor"[edit]

--- Existed, father of Sir Thomas Taylor, 1st Bt. (Q75678593), of Park House.
--- But, as noted in a discussion on WikiTree, the email gives him a additional middle name John, that seemingly cannot be verified anywhere else

"Colonel Henry John Taylor"[edit]

CLAIMS
  • educated at Queen's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.
  • fought in the English Civil War.
--- there is no record of any such person having been at Queens' in the Cambridge Alumni database [3]

"John Charles Henry Taylor"[edit]

CLAIMS
  • held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Kent.
  • held the office of Gentleman of the Bedchamber to King William III.
--- No one of this name was a Gentleman of the Bedchamber (list)
--- There was an MP called John Taylor (Q40861906) HP bio, who represented Sandwich in Kent from 1695 - 1698 and again in 1701. And this John Taylor was the father of Herbert Taylor (Q107484848) (discussed below) and grandfather of Edward Taylor (Q75271615). But his dates (1655-1729), marriage (Olivia Tempest, 1677), biography, and ancestry bear no relation what was sent to ThePeerage. For example his actual father was Nathaniel Taylor (Q76287859) of St. Giles, Cripplegate, a lawyer who sat in the Barebones Parliament of 1653–4, with no connection to the Taylor baronets of Park House, Maidstone in Kent. These facts are not hard to discover, and the family is not obscure -- another of John's sons was the very well documented Brook Taylor (Q212085), who gave his name to the Taylor Series in mathematics. The actual family history was set out clearly in eg Burke's Peerage (1836, reproduced in later editions) [4]. The statements made to TP seem to show an apparent disregard for reality. This is particularly so in the case of the next entry.

--- There was no MP of this name
--- In reality the father of Edward Taylor was Herbert Taylor (Q107484848), baptised 15 May 1698, well documented at eg the Cambridge Alumni database [9] and elsewhere
--- The actual Herbert Taylor went to Westminster School and then to St John's College, Cambridge; after which he spent his life as a deacon, then a rector, then a vicar. He married Mary Wake (Q107484923), daughter of Dr Edward Wake (Q107484969) prebendary of Canterbury, [Kent], cousin of William Wake (Q842313), Archbishop of Canterbury.
