BLP applies

[edit]

Greetings, WD:BLP applies to this person, as well as applying to President Donald Trump and others involved in today's shooting.

Please observe the BLP policy in all statements regarding this individual, and ensure that they are impeccably sourced, as you include citations for any and all statements that may be added to this item. THank you. Elizium23 (talk) 04:57, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

BLP doesn't apply because this person is not alive. --Deansfa (talk) 06:01, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It does indeed apply to the recently-deceased; it also applies to President Trump, and the Secret Service agents, and the folks who were injured, as well as the folks who were killed, as, again, recently deceased. It is not "nonsense"; these are very real legal issues, and you'll need to add references at the same time you add claims, not ex post facto. Thank you. @DukeOfDelTaco, @Notem, please do not add any claims without reliable sources. Elizium23 (talk) 11:41, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

His name in other languages

[edit]

Folks, his name is "Thomas Matthew Crooks" in English, and unless the character set differs (Hebrew, Chinese, Cyrillic, etc.) it is simply spam to add labels in other languages. Because his name is in English, not Spanish or German or French, etc. @Premeditated, @SMSC, @RVA2869: that "nameGuzzler" script is horrific. Elizium23 (talk) 12:05, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Deansfa, you have no reason, and no reply here? Elizium23 (talk) 12:34, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
His name doesn't show up in French or in other language if you don't set it in the language. Please stop to do that, I'm a native French speaker and contribute to non-English Wikipedias, it's common practice to set names in other languages. --Deansfa (talk) 12:36, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds like some sort of bug, and not our concern. The label is in the English language and it is not French. French uses the same Latin characters as English. Elizium23 (talk) 12:37, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not our concern? Do you write Sparql queries in some non-English language? Of course it's important that the name is set in other language. and it's not a bug, it's designed that way. --Deansfa (talk) 12:40, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Location controversies

[edit]

Hi folks, please refer to Talk:Q127421251#Location suggestions for extended discussion and some compromises being worked out, which can hopefully be propogated elsewhere. Elizium23 (talk) 19:39, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
