Q66793593 (Coca) seems to be very similar to this item. However, enwiki has a page for each one. Most pages about coca are linked here, and there aren't many pages about the species separately. What should be done? Ookap (talk) 00:58, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Ookap, Q66793593 (Coca plants) are the cultivated coca plants: Erythroxylum coca (Q158018), Erythroxylum novogranatense (Q5396543), Erythroxylum novogranatense var. truxillense (Q83371912) and Erythroxylum coca var. ipadu (Q50893488). All are differente varieties of Erythroxylum and all are called coca. Not all Erythroxylum species are called coca. It is a similar situation as rice (Q5090), where the crop groups different species of taxon: Oryza sativa (Q161426) and Oryza glaberrima (Q2670252). Cheers, Cbrescia (talk) 18:21, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Cbrescia: I understand that. However, on nearly every language version of Wikipedia, the page for "Coca", encompassing both of these species (and not any other Erythroxylum species) is linked to this item and not Q66793593. Only a few versions have pages specifically about Erythroxylum coca, in which case the page for "Coca" is linked to the correct item. Do you agree that they should be moved to the broader item or is there a reason not to? I haven't made many edits here on Wikidata, so I don't really know the policies. - The Wikidata item Q66793593 (Coca plants) is connected to the Spanish and English Wikipedia entries for Coca plants. The same goes for the items for the species. This is correct. If a Wikipedia page in another language about Coca that encompasses both species is connected to Q158018 (E. coca), then this page must be moved to Q66793593 (Coca plants). Most of the references about the coca plants are either in English or Spanish, this generates delays when editors update contents in another languages. Cbrescia (talk) 00:41, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
