Editing this page really sucks big time. The production company that owns the copyright to CAROL is Number 9 Films. Elizabeth Karlsen (Number 9 Films) worked for 14 years to have the film produced (http://www.screendaily.com/awards/carol-producer-elizabeth-karlsen-on-her-14-year-passion-project/5097955.article), but I am unable to add Number 9 Films to the list of production companies. Number 9 Films is behind all the players coming together. The Weinstein Company acquired the U.S. distribution rights for CAROL in 2013. Pyxis Solitary (talk) 01:01, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Pyxis Solitary: Hi, you made a bit of a mess, so I reverted your edits. The reason why you can't add Number 9 Films is that Number 9 Films has no item yet in Wikidata. If it is notable enough, you can create one, and then link to that from this item. – Máté (talk) 07:17, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Máté: You think I made a mess of the page ... however, almost every detail that existed and which you have now reversed is incorrect. To begin with, CAROL is a British-American production, not vice-versa; second, it is an English-language production -- so why are the references used for it in German (or any language that isn't English)? Third: anyone who knows anything about the film will simply wonder "what the _____?" when they come to this "data" page. I wasted my time here, but I will not waste it again. Pyxis Solitary (talk) 08:46, 24 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Pyxis Solitary: The references are in German, since German-language references were used. That has got absolutely nothing to do with the language of the film. Although, the order of the countries of origin often bears no significance, I'll change it back in the description. What is important here, that while you were trying to change something that remains unclear, you deleted important data, and added badly structured new ones (e.g. deleted NMHH rating, and added BBFC rating with the wrong properties). I'd recommend you taking the Wikidata:Tours before you continue to edit. Regards. – Máté (talk) 09:00, 24 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I did my best to merge everything you added maintaining the correct structure (and without deleting anything that's not supposed to be deleted). – Máté (talk) 09:27, 24 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Máté: I received notice only today that you had left a reply. I'm sure the inclusion of relevant and substantiating information will be appreciated by visitors to the article. If any URL becomes inaccessible, it can be found on Internet Archive.
Just so you know: Dwight D. Eisenhower was the President of the United States from 1953-1961. He appears briefly in the film in a television broadcast of his 1953 inaugural speech. Whoever included his name as a "cast member" (i.e. actor) didn't know what he was doing. Pyxis Solitary (talk) 08:45, 18 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong and missing information

[edit]

Based on my previous experience with this site, I'm not going to even try to edit incorrect information and add missing content. But I will point out for anyone who cares about providing factual information:

§ country of origin :

  • United Kingdom
  • United States of America

That's it. Two countries. "France" was not involved in the production of the film.

§ cast member :
The order and content of cast names in the opening credits is as follows

  • Cate Blanchett
  • Rooney Mara
  • Sarah Paulson
  • Jake Lacy
  • John Magaro
  • Cory Michael Smith
  • Carrie Brownstein
  • Kevin Crowley
  • Nik Pajic
  • And Kyle Chandler

→ "Dwight D. Eisenhower": is NOT a cast member. Eisenhower was the 34th President of the United States and his image appears in the film only as the television broadcast of his inaugural address on January 20, 1953.

→ "Ken Strunk": why is his name included in the section? His role was that of the bartender at The Ritz hotel and his name appears in the closing credits along with other minor-role actors.

§ production company :

  1. Number 9 Films – is the production company for the United Kingdom and the copyright holder.
  2. Film4 Productions – provided the major financing for the production.
  3. Killer Films – came on board as the United States production company AFTER financial backing was procured by Number 9 Films.

Number 9 Films is missing from section.

§ distributor :

  • The Weinstein Company (for the United States)

AND

  • StudioCanal (for United Kingdom and other European territories)

StudioCanal is missing from section.

@Pyxis Solitary: We have a source stating France as one of its production country. If you have a more reliable source directly contradicting that, add it to the statement and depreciate it (or paste the link here, and I help you out).
The cast member property stores all cast members, regardless of their level of involvment and billing order. There are qualifiers that can be used to indicate is someone is listed in the billing block, and in what order.
I added Number 9 Films and StudioCanal UK. (Other European territories is not specific enough, especially given that StudioCanal is only present in a fraction of European countries.) – Máté (talk) 05:17, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Máté: Hello. Thanks for adding Number 9 Films and StudioCanal. I think the "source" confused the location of its international premiere (Cannes Film Festival) as also a country of origin. The following sources will provide the names of producers, financial investors, and distributors (you will not find a company located in "France" as a producer or investor of the film):
  1. page 23 – Opening Credits (companies involved in the production)
  2. page 35 – In association with Compton Investments
  3. page 36 – companies involved in financing, production, distribution (Film4, StudioCanal, HanWay Films, Goldcrest, Number 9 Films, Killer Films, Ingenious, BFI Film Fund, Good Machine, Larkhark Films Limited)
  4. page 37 – copyright statement.
These sources all provide the financing background, and companies and invidivuals involved in producing the film. Thank you! Pyxis Solitary (talk) 09:07, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. LUMIERE is a France/European Union film database. It identifies Carol's Producing or Co-producing country as: "GB / US [Co-production]". Pyxis Solitary (talk) 11:54, 21 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
