Identity

[edit]

In many external identifiers, as well as Wikipedias, there is a conflation between Timaeus of Locri (Q176287) as a pythagorean philosopher and a character of Plato's Timaeus (Q371884), and Pseudo-Timaeus of Locri (Q95905372) as the author of the treaty On the nature of the world and the soul (Q108370206). Obviously the first one is necessarily born some time before the writing of Timaeus (Q371884), if he is not entirely fictionnal, while the second, as a commentator of this very work, must have lived after it was published. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 10:06, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Epìdosis, It seems that the info date of birth (P569) says " third century BC" is about Pseudo-Timaeus of Locri (Q95905372) (date of death (P570) as well). Can you fix it. Geagea (talk) 20:04, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Geagea: Sure, ✓ moved. @Jahl de Vautban: Regarding IDs, there is effectively a big mess; if you agree, I think probably the best solution would be moving most of the IDs (except those explicitly referring to the Platonic character) to the pseudo-author. --Epìdosis 20:42, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Epi. I do agree that moving to the pseudo-author, it's a good solution. Geagea (talk) 20:46, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Epìdosis: yes, I agree. In all probability the libraries at least have in mind the author of the treaty, whoever he is. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 06:47, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done, I have just left here DNB and SUDOC because they explicitly mention 5th century BCE. --Epìdosis 07:56, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
