classification[edit]

removed the "subclass of" link (P279) to research (Q42240), replacing it with a "main subject of" (P921) link to research, thereby averting the disjointness inherent in the concept's being both an entity and an event. -- WHD

advisors[edit]

Shouldn't it be somehow possible to add advisors/supervisors to each thesis? It doesn't seem to be widespread in WD and just adding "doctoral advisor" gets an error message, but it is relevant information. --Ehitaja (talk) 22:15, 11 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Ehitaja: Good question, usually we add this to the doctor item and not the thesis item, but it may not be the right way to do this if the doctor has several phd for example. Will try to raise the subject into discussion in a larger circle. author  TomT0m / talk page 14:32, 12 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TomT0m: In the case of a "larger circle", it might be also worth considering whether there should be possibility of adding other kinds of thesis advisors or supervisors than just doctoral. There are, after all, cases of significant theses on other academic levels, especially historically. (Also, now that I think about it, is there a way to differ advisors of "mere doctors" from habilitations in the countries that make that difference (Germany, Poland, Soviet Union)? Across borders and periods, of course, that terminology makes a horrible mess.) --Ehitaja (talk) 15:53, 12 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
