Consider merging with P244[edit]

It seems to me that this is a duplicate of item LCAuth ID (P244). Please consider merging these two wikidata items linked to name authority file / identity code (NAF or NACO) issued by the Library of Congress (LoC or LC). LC NAF and LC Authorities as sources[edit]

Who knows whether to cite this Library of Congress Name Authority File (Q18912790) or that Library of Congress Authorities (Q13219454) as a source -a value of "stated in" within a formal reference? And how do they know it?
Robert Newman (Q113579022) last hour, i cited both alternately in references for some vital data, both in conjunction with LCAuth ID n79139008.

If you are doing this manually, I would cite Library of Congress Name Authority File (Q18912790), as long as you are referring to a personal, corporate, or family name. Library of Congress Name Authority File (Q18912790) would not be appropriate if you are referring to a subject authority record. You can install a script that creates these references automatically, the "UseAsRef" script, and it uses "Library of Congress Authorities" as that stated in value, probably because that covers both LC names and subjects. If you look at Library of Congress authority ID (P244) and at the applicable 'stated in' value statements, you will see that Library of Congress Authorities (Q13219454) is ranked as preferred, and the script uses that preferred value. There is information on installing scripts at https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_Linked_Data_for_Production/Practical_Wikidata_for_Librarians#User_Scripts. Look for the "UseAsRef" script. UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 22:35, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
