graphic designer (Q627325) & graphic artist (Q1925963)? — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 00:09, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, graphic designer (Q627325) is the job (in advertising, etc.), graphic artist (Q1925963) is from what I understand a broad synonymous of drawer. Kokonino (talk) 08:31, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I just moved the 5 Wikipedia pages liked to this item to printmaker (Q11569986) (nl,sv) and graphic designer (Q627325) (de,fr,ru).

I'm now not sure to understand how graphic artist (Q1925963) and drawer (Q15296811) are not the same thing. Is it that graphic artist (Q1925963) is broader (including printmaker (Q11569986) for example)?

Many languages make a distinction between printmakers/engravers who typically do work for external clients (engraving stamps or illustrations etc.) and graphic artists who use print primarily as a medium for artistic expression. Graphic designer is yet another distinct profession. There's a significant conceptual overlap, making the distinctions hard to understand, but we shouldn't make things worse by moving sitelinks around. I've reverted your changes for now. Hi Väsk, thank you for your answer.
I moved back the French Wikipedia page graphiste to graphic designer (Q627325) as it is definitely what this Wikipedia article is about (the French article that was there, designer graphique, was a Wikimedia duplicated page (Q17362920)).
Regarding the other four language, you were obviously right to revert my move of Художник-график and the German Grafiker.
It's less clear if Dutch grafikus and Swedish grafiker should be moved to printmaker (Q11569986) (were there is no Dutch nor Swedish page) but the best solution would be to ask people speaking this language. Dutch Wikipedia's « Categorie:Graficus » is linked to Category:Printmakers (Q7032102), though. Kokonino (talk) 13:35, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
