Correct identification of this object

[edit]

The correct identification of some NGC objects is difficult due to errors and misunderstandings of the original observer and of the astronomers that, during time, made and re-analysed the data.

Use the information of different sources, NGC 6165 has different identifications: part of a bipolar nebula or the star HD 148937. Following the prescription of NGC/IC project, the correct identification is part of a bipolar nebula.

Source Identifications Link Notes
NGC/IC project in VizieR (Q1662358) nebula [1] right identification
NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database (Q488563) nebula [2] right identification
SIMBAD (Q654724) HD 148937 and NGC 6165 [3] wrong identification!

Please do not use SIMBAD (Q654724) database to recover the data of this object!
