Is it a valid item? It is a disambiguation page on the only wiki it has an article for. Syced (talk) 11:19, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No, it's unclear how this item became a placeholder for various languoid identifiers after it was created as a result of a disambiguation page on enwiki intended to clarify the status of the Punjabi language. I had not realized this at first, but after discussing with @User:Mahir256 I think it would make sense to fix the handful of links to this item, move the identifier properties to more appropriate items, and restore this item to the original disambiguation page status. A breakdown of the identifiers and what they refer to:
  • "exact match" on Europa - the file this links to describes the Punjabi language accurately and generally. I have moved to Punjabi (Q58635) accordingly.
  • Library of Congress Authority + Vocabulary IDs - regardless of what language codes they use, all Punjabi content the LoC records is linked to these IDs, not just a particular writing system or dialect. Moved to Punjabi (Q58635).
  • Art & Architecture ID - Punjabi as used in India, according to the description. Can go on new item for Punjabi as used in India.
  • SIL/Ethnologue/ISO Punjabi - Apparently original to the field of digital pseudo-linguistics, these entities hold that there is one unqualified language called Panjabi or Punjabi which is only spokeb in India. This concept can have its own item. Library of Israel ID is just an entry based on the entry in Ethnologue.
  • IETF - apparently they just copy SIL without deprecating anything so this can go on the above item.
  • Glottolog panjXXXX - Oddly, this is the only one which indicates anything literally to do with eastern dialects of Punjabi. It lists "Eastern Punjabi" as the head of a tree including the Majhi and Daobi dialects, for example. Majhi being the dialect of Lahore this isn't a political division. This can go on an item grouping Punjabi dialects Majhi and eastward (Central Punjabi, a term used by some writers, already has an item, so this could just be Central Punjabi + Daobi etc).
  • Linguist List - link rot property, unclear what this was supposed to be, removed.

Further Eastern Punjabi (Q111699629) can be merged once this has been done. Middle river exports (talk) 19:44, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot to mention FAST - same situation for WorldCat, it describes all sources in the language in their database despite having Eastern Punjabi as an alias. Moved to the main language item. Middle river exports (talk) 20:20, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
