Promoting in results list for instance of (P31)?[edit]

When adding instance and typing the full word "edition" this identifier is not appearing in the top 5, or the top 10. There are a lot results appearing that are never likely to be instances, and are fuller words. What can be done to promote this property in the results list?  — billinghurst sDrewth 22:25, 1 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@billinghurst: Sorry, I have no idea. I use the German labels. --Kolja21 (talk) 15:20, 4 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Kolja21, billinghurst: same thing in French and for a lot of other items (though it's particulary painfull in this case). I think there was discussion about having smarter suggestions. Sadly, I can't find it anymore... does anyone remember it? (@Lydia Pintscher (WMDE):) Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 18:01, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
AFAIK the software tries to show the best (= most used) result first, but in the case of "edition" it's a hard task. Imho on the long run we need special interfaces for special interests. For example a library interface for users who are interested in bibliographic data. --Kolja21 (talk) 18:30, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
As I see the typeahead results, they are not based on populated use. I have many many many instances of "edition", and the current preferred responses would be well less populated. I so know the Q3331189 (full code) to type now. :-/  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:50, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
+1, suggestions are clearly not based on number of uses, not is this case at least : version, edition or translation (Q3331189) has 2526 uses with instance of (P31) but is behind RNA modification (Q477002) (0 uses) editing (Q397239) (18 uses) and publishing (Q3972943) (50 uses) - the four having a label « édition » in french. I'm thinking about a special interface for books (and maybe directly in Wikisource, so Wikisource users can stay on Wikisource and/or on Wikimedia Commons when a fac-simile is imported). Obviously, only Q-number matters. --Infovarius (talk) 11:41, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Infovarius: what do you mean ? Obviously too, when I type a word, the suggestions match the label (and not the Q-number) and the suggestions are not ordered by Q-number, for « édition » in french, I've got :
  • Q3972943
  • Q294083
  • Q397239
  • Q477002
  • Q3331189
  • Q157228963
  • Q16023725
I tried in other langages, for others properties, etc. but I fail to see any order but randomness. Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 16:41, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, yes, you are right. I tried and found no order. --Infovarius (talk) 10:44, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Adaptation of the label and description to reflect coverage of frbr:Expression and frbr:Manifestation[edit]

I've adapted the labels and the descriptions in English, French, and German to reflect the fact that this class is supposed to cover both frbr:Expression and frbr:Manifestation. See Wikidata:WikiProject_Performing_arts/Data_sources/CH#Representing_the_classes_relating_to_the_Work_(FRBR_group_1_classes) for the reasoning behind it. --Beat Estermann (talk) 11:52, 31 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Beat Estermann: a bit surprising but a good surprise, thank you! Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 17:19, 31 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can be used for software versions?[edit]

Can it be used for software versions (e.g. Firefox 4 (Q1950119))?--Malore (talk) 18:49, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ISBN - may be multiple or strictly unique?[edit]

Same edition of a book exists in hardcopy and ebook-pdf, with different ISBNs and publication dates. Should they be bundled within one record or be two separate records? Retired electrician (talk) 22:32, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
