Split into alloy, allotrope
[edit]As I understand it, this entity austenite (Q487286) can mean both the allotrope of iron (Q646981) and a iron alloy (Q10772391). I propose to split the item in these two distinct substances. However, the question is what the remaining Q487286 should be: the alloy, the allotrope, or the ambigu one?
Some history:
- Created in 2012, unspecified, from dozens of language wiki articles,
- In 2016 "Disambiguation page" was removed,
- In 2016, "alloy" was specified,
- In 2017, "or allotrope" was added to the English label.
Proposal: Given the ambiguous history and nature of the item, I think two new items are required for the two forms. -DePiep (talk) 04:36, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- In the end, I expect items "austenite, iron alloy (Q10772391), ..." and "austenite, allotrope of iron (Q646981)". -DePiep (talk) 04:55, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- Yes I think two new items and make this one a disambiguation item. ArthurPSmith (talk) 17:22, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
- Proceeded.
- Applying Wikidata:WikiProject Disambiguation pages/guidelines.

- Remaining: half a dozen IDs do not differentiate between the alloy and allotrope. However, they are not supposed to stay here. Requires some language knowledge. -DePiep (talk) 09:32, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
None (or very few) of the linked wikipedia pages are disambiguation pages. Now they are incorrectly linked to this disambiguation item and needs to be moved to a non-disambiguation Wikidata item. My language and metallurgy knowledge is not good enough to do that. I think some pages might be combined articles for both allotrope and alloy, and need a combination item. Its probably easier to make this item a combination item instead of disambiguation item. Then we would have less incorrectly linked WP articles. 90.227.175.244 11:45, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- Are we sure that this item should be a 'Wikimedia disambiguation page'? It is not linking to disambigs in Wikipedia, as it was pointed out above. Probably it should be something like Wikipedia article covering multiple topics (Q21484471). Wostr (talk) 12:29, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- Looks like IP and Wostr are correct. As I just learned (reading the /guidelines), the enwiki page, and likely other langwikis, are not formal DAB-page (no
__ DISAMBIG __
in there). - Solution: pls someone proceed with Wikipedia article covering multiple topics (Q21484471) as proposed (I am not familiar with).
- austenite (Q113365319) alloy, new, can stay item as intended. different from (P1889) useful.
- austenite (Q113365321) allotrope, new, can stay item as intended. different from (P1889) useful.
