Provenance, confiscation, ownership, restitution

[edit]

the problem is, that one cannot speak of "property" in cases of illegal confiscation, this is also not logical, because the false or missing property is the condition for the later restitution to the real owners. There can't be 2 different owners at the same time. So in German (law) we distinguish between possession (possession, bezit) and property which should be the same in other languages. So people who claim rights from confiscation can't be owned by (P127). We need a property for possession Oursana (talk) 13:35, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's fine to have two owners at the same time in owned by (P127) - just use qualifiers to explain or clarify, together with significant event (P793) for art theft (Q1756454). See Wikidata:WikiProject Provenance to discuss in future. Jane023 (talk) 15:34, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
