President of the Executive Yuan[edit]

@Wylve: the item has a referenced statement saying that he was President of the Executive Yuan until 25 January 1932. However, the source apparently does not provide a start date. I coul add the start date given in Wikipedia but then data will no longer be from the cited reference. Beside, enwiki and zhwiki give different end times, and neither of them match Hsu's. I think the most convenient solution would be to find a legal document or scholarly article focused on the topic that would provide use the information. --Zolo (talk) 07:43, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What is the convention for references now? Are all references for a claim to be seen as collectively showing the validity of the claim, or must each reference for a claim be able to independently verify the claim? If it's the former, then I can just find another reference with the start date without removing the existing reference. —Wylve (talk) 11:46, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure things are really settled. I raised that question once at the Village Pump, but if I recall correctly only one peson replied, and said that each reference for a claim should be able to independently verify the claim. After some practice I found out that this would be really hard to manage though, as it would require a lot of partial and overlapping statements (it would already be great if everybody updated references when they edit a claim...) So I'd say that if you have a reference for the start date, it's fine to add it directly. --Zolo (talk) 13:33, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It seems quite problematic that an existing reference may need to be removed when an editor adds a new qualifier. I think a solution might be to create a new claim commensurate to its reference(s). But of course there will be quite a few overlapping statements, as you've mentioned. —Wylve (talk) 16:38, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Wylve: I was actually thinking mostly of the "imported from", which presumably can safely be removed when needed. I think we should avoid have one statement saying that he was prime minister from date A and another stating that he was president until date B, when it leaves us wondering if he was actually president once or twice and wether we are missing some dates. But ok, when we have conflicting sources, there is no obvious solution so.... --Zolo (talk) 08:38, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
