reversion[edit]

@Toni 001: Hi, regarding your reversion, I know that dunam (Q216795) was an historic unit of area with diferent equivalences depending on territory. However, in order to handle a conversion, nowadays is accepted a "metric dönüm" as you can see a [1]. Thanks to revert your reversion. Amadalvarez (talk) 15:17, 4 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Amadalvarez: One solution would be to create one item specifically for the "well defined" unit that you mention. As a general rule, I would think that we should have one item for each identifiable unit - each with its unique conversion factor to standard/SI unit and (non-Wikipedia) source(s). In this case, the description of dunam (Q216795) is "general topic for ...": Semantically this can't be both a "topic" and a "unit". Finally, the title of "conversion to standard unit" suggests that we should convert "less-standard units" to "more-standard units", but that could probably be discussed on the property talk page. @Toni 001:Maybe, but now the items that use this unit/concept are pointing to this item as a unit. So, if you wish create a new item, it should be assigned to the concept or "old measures". However, I do not consider necessary. Another change I need to do: you have delete some other entries of conversion to standard unit (P2442) that I need to make conversions. In cawiki, our module:wikidata make unit conversions from unit fetched to unit selected in each case, via P2442. I'll recover the square metre conversion because are usual. The square micrometre or microinch, I agree that are really rare. I proceed. Thanks, Amadalvarez (talk) 17:13, 4 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Amadalvarez: About square metre: The usage instructions of conversion to standard unit state "Use P2370 for conversion to SI base or derived units." which I read as "don't duplicate conversions to (coherent) SI units in P2442". Toni 001 (talk) 13:45, 5 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Toni 001:, OK. I'll change it.Amadalvarez (talk) 14:36, 5 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Amadalvarez: About using dunam (Q216795) as unit: Checking various linked Wikipedia articles (de, en, fr, es, nl, ca, ...) it seems that the majority is about various different units. So I think using this item as a unit in any statement is wrong. Toni 001 (talk) 13:57, 5 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Toni 001:Well, all of them talk about historic measures together wit the UNIQUE conversion rules with they call "metric dönüm". As I said, I have no interest in split item in two, but if you wish, can do it. By the way, which of two items will you link WP articles to ?, because all of them talk about the two topics: the historic and the standard conversion.
