Chef-lieu vs. Keskustaajama, Capoluogo, Hauptort (etc.)[edit]
This item seems to be a combination of several things. Articles on several languages about the French word chef-lieu apply strictly to the main cities of French departments, while other articles describe a term that is used in other countries for main-cities specifically in that country (Keskustaajama, Capoluogo). - Indeed, I would call this a "principle town" in English and not a "chef-lieu". In the USA it would be the "county seat" or "township seat", but that depends on the structure. We need to differentiate here between the French chef-lieu and the general concept of a principle town. --WiseWoman (talk) 15:22, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
