Does this work?[edit]

@Zolo: To be completely honest, I have no idea whether this template works as it should. There have been many pings of WikiProject India, for example, that I have found on various talk pages (including the WikiProject's own), but for which I receive no notification of having been mentioned, as I would expect to be the case when this template is used properly. Do you know if there is a problem with this template as it is written at present? Maybe the cswiki version differs in some way? Mahir256 (talk) 20:21, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Also @TomT0m:, as one of the major contributors to this template. Mahir256 (talk) 23:16, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Mahir256: the template works for me (at least sometimes, have not made sure I had not missed any ping). The template is pretty simple and I don't really see how it could bug, but I've header that sometimes notications don't work. Also, I think it won't work when it the pinger has not signed his message. Also, it is possible to turn off notifications when one's name is mentionned, which will turn off notifications for this template. Did you get a notification for this reply ? @Zolo: Yes, I got this ping. I am not sure, then, why I'd miss pings for WikiProject India. Do you know what specifically would suppress project pings but not regular ones? Is there perhaps a problem with the setup of the participants list? Mahir256 (talk) 17:18, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Mahir256: ah yes you can't have more than 50 names [1]. Zolo (talk) 20:41, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Zolo: Well that’s awful...any good way to circumvent this? (I could purge those on the list who have made little to no other contributions, but I’m not sure whether this would be the best thing...) Mahir256 (talk) 21:06, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see any simple solution. You could split the list into two and ping them in separate edits but that does not sound great either. Zolo (talk) 08:16, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Zolo, Mahir256: I guess this is something that needs to be expressed to developpers. For example Template:Pinq, it occures that notifications are used « en masse » to notify project members and on big project this can extend the limit. Is there something that can be done on the Mediawiki level to address that? If we could introduce some kind of « page ping » on which people who get this page on their watchlist would be notified, this may solve this for example. author  TomT0m / talk page 08:36, 9 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Do not indent[edit]

Note: Currently, to work properly, the template needs to be placed right at the start of the line (ie there must be no : characters identing it).

Otherwise the formatting goes wrong, and a visible list of project members is shown. Jheald (talk) 18:07, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Broken?[edit]

I tried this for Lighthouses, but it doesn't seem to work anymore. What's broken?

Placement[edit]

When this template is in the "motivation" section of a property proposal then it works. When it is in the "discussion" section it goes crazy and lists all project participants. If anyone has the same difficulty then put the ping in another section. This template behavior is unfamiliar to me. Blue Rasberry (talk) 20:25, 11 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Bluerasberry: Probably because in the Discussion section, you used it in an indented comment? It was not supported up until now. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 11:14, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for update, seems addressed Blue Rasberry (talk) 18:13, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
