Hi,
I spoked with a meteorologist from Environment Canada (EC, Q348789) and his employer and him are ready to upload a lot of canadian weather conditions data. My estimation is that we talk about millions or tens of millions of data. We started a WikiProject to figure out how to do that. For now, we don't know if we must put these data here or on Commons.
I read your proposal for P4150 and I have questions for you :
1- For now, I only see the New York data file. Do you know why no other places have been done ? Do unexpected problems arise ?
2- If we create an element for each of the 8750 meteorological stations of EC here and we create a lot of new meteorological properties (maxtemp, min temp, precipitations, etc.) and fill them with the EC data for each year and month, I know more how to retrieve the information than if we put it on Commons and hope someone create Lua templates after. So my question is : do you know if someone or a project is working now on templates to use these Commons data (in and out the WMF wikis) ?

Thank you for advancing this project.

I think the data should be stored on Commons per my arguments provided in the proposal of P4150. Wikidata is not designed to store large amount of data on a single item. After a few hundred statements it UI crashes. Also the internal representation is highly inefficient for tabular data, that is one reason why the data namespace on Commons was created.

To retrieve data stored on Commons not many things exist yet. I'm aware of the Graph extension (installed on WMF wikis) which can draw plots from Commons data files. This extension is used in en:Template:Graph:Weather monthly history which is for example transcluded in en:New_York_City#Climate. Maybe @Yurik: knows more sites using Commons data.

Even if Commons data are not yet heavily used, I really think many nice things can be produced with it. If somebody donates data and somebody wants to retrieve the data, I'm sure you will find people creating Lua moduls and templates to enable this.

Ok, thank you for the informations. I have seen the weather monthly history template. I translated it in French a put it on w:fr:Climat de New York.
I'm still surprised that it seem that no other weather conditions data seems to have been uploaded on Commons. As you know, the property have been created at the beginning of August. That why I wanted to know if it is because people got problems with this and, if so, if we'll have problems too.

I'm not aware that any problems occured, I belief just nobody was so far interested in dealing with weather data.
