Europeana Art history challenge
15 April - 30 May, 2016
#Europeana280 / Art History Collections @ Europeana

Europeana 280 is a cross-border campaign to get people excited about Europe’s shared art heritage by celebrating the diverse and magnificent artworks that are a part of it. The campaign coincides with the launch of the Art History collections, one of Europeana's first thematic collection sites. All 28 EU Member States were invited to nominate 10 pieces of art held in their country that have contributed to a major European art movement. Every EU member got involved, and Norway too!

The Europeana Art History Challenge is...

  • Target: Improving the Wikidata and Wikipedia articles for these artworks.
Artworks: 28 EU member States (+ Norway) x 10 artworks each = 290 items
Languages: Of the participating 29 countries, there are 31 Wikipedias with official status as national or regional languages. Other Wikpedia languages are also welcome to join!
Total: 290 artworks x 31+ languages = Over 9000 Wikipedia articles about European artworks!
  • When: From 15 April until 30 May 2016
  • How: Earn Points by creating or improving articles on Wikipedia and also for improving the Wikidata items about the artworks AND any Wikidata item linked from the artwork item. See the challenge participants page to signup and see all the ways to earn points.
  • Who: Anyone with a Wikimedia account can participate. To participate you just need to sign up on the Participants section.
