Durian

Hello AlleinStein,

I see you made a special page on viwiki for Durian fruit. In itself this is a good thing, but it would be better not to include a taxobox in such a page. A taxobox may confuse the reader: the fruit itself does not have a taxonomic position. Taxoboxes are best reserved for pages on genera, species, etc. - Brya (talk) 04:50, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

I couldn't combine vi:Sầu riêng to en:Durian because one's about the genus and the other is about the fruit. So, I created another article in viwiki about fruit vi:Sầu riêng (quả) and linked it with en:Durian. All information was translated and copied from enwiki included the taxobox and it's a GA. I think a taxobox in an article about fruit isn't waste. Best regards!AlleinStein (talk) 15:18, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for the response. Yes, I understood what you had done, and having two separate pages is a good idea. This often helps in unconfusing things. That the English page includes a taxobox is not a very good argument, as the english page is rather confused about its topic. And they give many pages a GA-status, even some quite poor ones.

        A taxobox in a page on a fruit is

• unnecessary, as there will be a link to a page on a genus, species, etc, and that page will have a taxobox, where all the information can be found.
• often misleading, as often a fruit will not match a particular taxonomic position. This is the case here. No doubt all the trees of the genus Durio will have fruits that are somewhat alike, but not all are used as Durian fruits. Most of the fruits used will belong to the one species. Also, it is not at all exceptional for a fruit (or other commercial product) to belong to more than one genus.
• having the same taxobox in more than one page is confusing to the reader and also to all those bots that are constantly harvesting data.

Merging items

Hallo AlleinStein,

For merging items, you may want to use the merge.js gadget from help page about merging. It has an option "Request deletion for extra items on RfD" to automatically place a request to delete the emptied page. This way of nominating makes it a lot easier for the admins to process the requests.
