Controlling language for game of birth and death dates

[edit]

Hi, Is there a way to specify that I want to see records in English or Spanish when I do the birth or death game? I specified those languages in my settings, but I get pages in Polish, Japanese, etc, which I cannot assess. Thx p.

@162.235.41.1 Thanks for playing the game. Unfortunately there is no such feature now. I'll revisit the Game Platform API, and try to add the feature in next release if it's workable. Notice that If languages were restricted, the result could be limited to a much smaller scope. You may use page translation to understand languages you don't know for now. Thanks again!

Gregorian calendar

[edit]

Hi,
Really cool tool. Thank you !
I suggest to you to limit dates from ruwiki, zhwiki and every other country where the Gregorian calendar have been adopted tardily.
For example, for ruwiki, every dates before 1917 are probably julian and enter them in Wikidata under gregorian format is a well known problem. Simon Villeneuve (talk) 09:59, 9 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Simon Villeneuve, thanks for your advice! As you may noticed, currently all the dates are after 1800 and the calendar model is set to Gregorian by default. Decide the calendar model is not a straightforward task, I'm trying to find a decent way to solve it. For example, the person article comes from ruwiki doesn't mean the person born in Russian. Calendar model are mostly decided by the person's country of birth and the time. We can infer country of birth from place of birth(P19), but place of birth(P19) is missing for even more entities compare to date of birth. Referring country of birth by country of citizenship(P27) is less accurate but workable choice. The least accurate option is decide by nation inferred by side link language. For languages used by multiple country, we may choose a country, for example the United states for enwiki. I'll try to generate a data set that best guess the calendar model by consider place of birth(P19), country of citizenship(P27) and side link language respectively.
BTW, there is another game Born Where helps import place of birth(P19) to Wikidata. The results helps decide the calendar model.

Missing Birthdate

[edit]

Thanks for your presentation in Stockholm. Suggestion for the "Missing Birthdate" is that you can select prefered languages. Salgo60 (talk) 19:43, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Salgo60, thanks for playing and upload the video! You could set preferred language in the user profile by click the avatar on the right upper corner of the game page. Language code could found here List of Wikipedias. Note that only your primary language(the first language in your language setting) will be taken care of. The game will prioritize items with Wikipedia reference in your primary language. If you didn't see results in your language, either all items in your language has been marked or your language was not included to the data set. We currently support languages with more than 1000 active editors, based on 24 July 2019 record of this list.

Taxon author

[edit]

Hi, I tagged this as wrong category semantics in the game, but taxon author (P405) should be used as a qualifier with taxon name (P225), and throws a property constraint violation warning when added as its own statement. H. Mary (talk) 23:42, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
