Merging items[edit]

Hallo DGtal,

When you are merging items, please use the Merge.js gadget. It helps you nominating, gives the option to always keep the lower number (which is older, so preferable) and makes it a lot easier for the admins to process the requests.

With regards, - User:CycnUser:CycnUser:CycnUser:Cycn - (Cycn/talk) 12:13, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have used the gadget ever since I discovered it exactly as you recommended. The last request was caused by a one time bug. Thanks, DGtal (talk) 12:47, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DGtal! You may add some help tools to user:DGtal/common.js or (if you use the vector skin) to user:DGtal/vector.js . Please see User:Rotsaert8000 (in Esperanto), Wikidata:Tools, and Wikidata:Tools/User scripts for candidates you may add. On the user:i18n-page you will see all WD gadget links. It takes time to see what fits most of your interests. Good luck! Proteins and genes are distinct concepts[edit]

Hi, I noticed a merge on a gene item (Q14820612) and a protein item (Q422301). Although related they are distinct concepts and as such should not be merged. A protein is a product of a gene. Merges like this leads to incorrect knowledge since it links gene properties to protein properties and vice versa. I took the liberty to revert the merge to the previous state of separate gene item and a separate wikidata item. --Andrawaag (talk) 07:15, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Andrawaag. Checking again, I now understand what went wrong. The English-language article en:Secretin talks about the hormone/protein but is linked to the gene item (Q14820612). Could you double check if I am correct, and if I am, we should connect the enwiki article to Q422301 rather than to Q14820612. I humbly await your reply, DGtal (talk) 07:31, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
DGtal , please see the previous discussion on Andra's talk page: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User_talk:Andrawaag#ProteinBoxBot_Mistake.3F . Gene's and proteins are highly interrelated things but they are not the same. One gene may encode multiple different proteins with different properties. In the current data model, all of the data is maintained but it is distributed across several related items. --I9606 (talk) 20:39, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Constraints[edit]

Constraints no longer use the templates on the talk pages, but statements on the property pages. Mbch331 (talk) 09:53, 23 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Mbch331. Could you refer me to a correctly stated example of legitimate constraint violations of IMDb ID (P345)? DGtal (talk) 10:15, 23 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know what you mean, but all constraints are on IMDb ID (P345). Mbch331 (talk) 10:54, 24 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Now I see what you mean. Thanks, DGtal (talk) 11:29, 24 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request[edit]

Hello.

Can you create the article en:Lists of Azerbaijani films, en:Template:Azerbaijan film list and en:List of Azerbaijani film directors in Hebrew?

Can you create the article en:Bodies of water of Azerbaijan in Hebrew?

Can you also create the article en:List of rivers of Azerbaijan in Hebrew?

Thank you.

Sarvathi (talk) 14:33, 28 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not really. Hebrew Wikipedia has an uncommon policy of discouraging list articles unless they have an added value, which is not the case with articles that are "just" lists of people, rivers, etc. DGtal (talk) 06:28, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Translation[edit]

Hello.

Can you translate and upload en:National Library of Azerbaijan, en:Baku State University and en:Science and technology in Azerbaijan in Hebrew Wikipedia?

They don't need to be long.

Yours sincerely, Matricatria (talk) 10:40, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Military branch[edit]

Hi, since you wondered in your comment why I have removed IDF from the "military branch" property, it is due to the fact the IDF is not a "military branch", it is the Military itself. A military branch is, for example, "Israeli Navy" as correcly indicated here: Q2917441, or "Israeli Air Force", as corectly indicated here: Q2906409. The "military branch" property is misused in relation with Israelis (I see that some even qualify Mossad or Shabak as a "military branch", while those organizations are not a part of the Israeli military), causing the incorrect reflection of the branch in the wikis employing automatic uploading of Wikidata properties. -- Prokurator11 (talk) 15:37, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Preprint items - how to address them?[edit]

Greetings.

I am unsure how to address preprints. I've seen a comment by you elsewhere and I wanted to get your comment.

I think you would have editors replace scholarly article (Q13442814) with preprint (Q580922). Am I correct in this? It's an extra step when creating article with Source Meta Data (Source MD), but no problem.

Also, I hoped to get your thoughts on how to connect the preprint to the scholarly article. Does one put replaced by (P1366) in the preprint, put replaces (P1365) in the published article, or use some variety of has edition or translation (P747) or modified version of (P5059)? I'm so very confused...

Also, how does one address/edit items that are comments on preprints, e.g. Author's response to referee #1 (Q104586602)? What is the best linkage with preprint, referee's comment, final article, etc.? Now my brain hurts.

Thanks, Trilotat (talk) 16:28, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I agree we should replace scholarly article (Q13442814) with preprint (Q580922). I think modified version of (P5059) is best here. Regarding the final question, referee's comments should use main subject (P921) to connect to the paper in question. DGtal (talk) 18:47, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Thanks for your response. Trilotat (talk) 19:01, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Silvio Danese[edit]

Hi (happy new year), I think you're right: Silvio Danese on itwikiquote is categorized as an Italian film critic. Even if a gastroenterologist can discuss about movies in his free time, I assume the researcher is maybe an homonym. Since there is no page on itwikipedia, ORCID should be prevalent - and the item on Wikidata has to be revised accordingly. AnjaQantina (talk) 14:08, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. If you can confirm it a homonym (there seems to be info on both on the web) I recommend you open a new item for the film critic. Good luck, DGtal (talk) 14:16, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
