Categories into non-category items merge

[edit]

Hi. Categories should not be merged into regular items. We keep them separate and link each other via specific properties instead. Removing a wikipedia category link to perform a merge is also a bad practice. Solidest (talk) 19:05, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Linking a Wikimedia category to a Wikipedia category when an article exists results in Wikidata entries that are incomplete. Dclemens1971 (talk) 21:01, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The correct thing to do would be to specify topic's main category (P910) and category's main topic (P301) in both objects, rather than deleting properly set links. This practice is used in tens of millions of entities on wikidata, and what you are doing is making a conflation. A category about an entity is not the entity itself.
