[edit]

Hello, I'm Kirilloparma. In case you didn't know, descriptions begin with a lowercase letter except when uppercase would normally be required or expected. Essentially, you should pretend that the description is appearing in the middle of a normal sentence, and then follow normal language rules. Most terms would not be capitalized if they appeared in the middle of a sentence. However terms such as proper nouns (e.g. the names of specific people, specific places, and specific titles) should be capitalized. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks!  Kirilloparma (talk) 16:52, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please pay attention to this message. Eight months later, after my warning, you have not changed your behavior and continue to add descriptions that do not comply with Wikidata policy (example). Regards Kirilloparma (talk) 19:25, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request

[edit]

@Lymantria::

I've only noticed today that my account has been blocked here for two weeks for adding descriptions that weren't formatted according to the site guidelines. I would like to explain the circumstances that led up to this happening, and appeal this block for the purpose of fixing every description added via my account as soon as possible.

I primarily edit on English Wikipedia, where I use the Shortdesc helper tool to aid with adding short descriptions to articles on that project, through which many have automatically appeared on Wikidata. Somehow I did not receive any notification of the warnings sent to my Wikidata talk page via English Wikipedia, so I was honestly completely unaware that any rule for lower case letters at the start of most Wikidata descriptions existed, especially as Wikipedia descriptions typically begin with capital letters. I only discovered the messages and the block from a notification appearing on a different language version of Wikipedia that I very rarely visit, and am unsure as to why it never showed up on any other Wikimedia site.

In the meantime I've changed my settings on the Shortdesc helper tool so that any more short descriptions I add to English Wikipedia will not be published to Wikidata, so no further disruption will ever seep through if I am unblocked.

Causing harm to any Wikimedia project is absolutely the last thing I intend to do, and I am terribly disheartened that I have unknowingly done so to this one for all this time. I feel it extremely unfair to expect other editors to fix the mess I made, so I wish to be unblocked in order to check for and correct every problematic description myself where this hasn't been done already. I have taken the time to read and understand the guidelines in Help:Description to ensure this is done properly.

Thank you so much in advance for your time reading and considering this request, and I am very eager to make amends here.

I will unblock you, hoping that indeed you succeed in repairing the descriptions that weren't formatted according to the site guidelines. --Lymantria (talk) 07:04, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
