Interwiki conflict[edit]

Welcome Eric! You left a message on the interwiki conlficts page, thank you for your input. I solved it and also read your comment about the editintro. What would you like to see better? I'm not a native english-speaker, but I can try to make it a bit clearer. What could be better, as I've seen it, it looked to me very fine, but I can imagine that that is not the case for newcomers. What would you suggest? Q.Zanden questions? 22:42, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@QZanden: Hi Q, dank je wel! How'd you do it?? Where was the problem?
Anyway, re my suggestion for the instructions: When you go to add a new interwiki conflict report, the instructions are above the edit box, instead of in a comment in the editing window, which I think is the norm on the wikis at least. No big deal, I found them pretty quick. They read:
Replace "Q1" and "Q2" with numbers of items that are in conflict. Describe the problem after "discussion = ".
It took me several minutes to determine what numbers of items referred to. I would suggest defining what the Q numbers are, maybe by changing the instructions to read something like this (if I understand correctly what they are):
Replace "Q1" and "Q2" (Wikidata's unique identifier numbers assigned to every article topic, found next to the topic name in the interwiki link editing interface) with the corresponding Q numbers of the topics/(article names) that are in conflict. Describe the problem after "discussion = ".
I imagine that the definition I put in the first () could be condensed by some who understands the system better than I, or maybe it could be made as a linked footnote somehow. Hope I'm making sense! Proost! Eric (talk) 23:09, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your input. I thought already that the explanation of Q numbers should be explained somewhere. I know there are a few places where they already are explained, but repetition can never be in overdose... Putting it into the editpage is possible, but I don't know how to fix that, should take me a minute to find out I guess, but the problem is that the pages will be expanded so fast with bytes that is would immensely slow down the load-time of the unresolved-page if in every section that information would be visible. The best way to change this is still placing it atop of the editscreen, just the way it is now. Your text is pretty clear and I think it will be accepted if you proposed it somewhere. What about this:
Replace the numbers after the Q with the numbers of the items that are in conflict. You can find these numbers in the searchfield(I don't know if this is the right word for it) of your browser after /wiki/Q... Describe the problem after the "discussion=".
I know it is a bit more complicated, but I don't want to much text above it... PS. Your dutch is pretty good! Proost! Q.Zanden questions? 23:23, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
PPS, the problem was in a template that still had a manual interwiki-link. I deleted that one there and merged the template here on wikidata with the correct one. Q.Zanden questions? 23:26, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@QZanden: Hi Q- Well, the issue still remains that for us newbies, "the numbers of the items" doesn't mean anything. What would help is to alert the user to the existence of the Wikidata numbering system, explaining two things:
1) Every wiki article (or topic?) has a unique identifying number (beginning with the letter "Q").
2) The number can be found next to the article's name in the "Edit links" dialog accessed via the Languages section of the article's navigation panel.
It might help to add this guidance under the Add a new interwiki conflict report button on Wikidata:Interwiki conflicts. I would try adding the guidance myself, but I think maybe it should be done by someone more familiar with the system, in case I've worded it wrong. What do you think? And do you think we should move this part of the discussion to the talkpage of the conflicts page? Eric (talk) 18:01, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe that is a good idea, moving to the talkpage. It is always good to ask more input from other users than just the two of us. Q.Zanden questions? 18:32, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oké, afgesproken! Hey, not important, but would you have any idea why the "talk" in my signature isn't a link? I haven't disabled it in preferences. Eric (talk) 18:38, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Because the page it is linking to, is this page. If the page you're linking to, the same is as you are visiting, then the link appears bold. I added a section at Wikidata talk:Interwiki conflicts. Q.Zanden questions? 18:41, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, yes, of course! An embarrassed thank-you... Yes, I saw the section, and added some comments. Dank je wel! Eric (talk) 18:58, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
