Welcome to Wikidata, Genewiki123!

Wikidata is a free knowledge base that you can edit! It can be read and edited by humans and machines alike and you can go to any item page now and add to this ever-growing database!

Need some help getting started? Here are some pages you can familiarize yourself with:

  • Introduction – An introduction to the project.
  • Wikidata tours – Interactive tutorials to show you how Wikidata works.
  • Community portal – The portal for community members.
  • User options – including the 'Babel' extension, to set your language preferences.
  • Contents – The main help page for editing and using the site.
  • Project chat – Discussions about the project.
  • Tools – A collection of user-developed tools to allow for easier completion of some tasks.

Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask on Project chat. If you want to try out editing, you can use the sandbox to try. Once again, welcome, and I hope you quickly feel comfortable here, and become an active editor for Wikidata.

Hello Genewiki123, "please first discuss new properties at Wikidata:Property proposal and wait 2–3 days before creating the new property to let enough time to people to discuss" (Wikidata:List of properties). There is no translation for Property:P128 and we don't know what infobox could it. Cheers --Kolja21 (talk) 00:51, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Perhaps you could provide a translation? Apologies for creating it before discussing it. This would be one of several potential extensions to the protein box template found on human gene pages (e.g. see Cdk2). Genewiki123 (talk)
It would be very useful if there was a sandbox environment where people could freely create properties and statements to see how the systems works. Genewiki123 (talk)

I added P128 to Wikidata:List_of_properties#Biology_.2F_Biologie_.2F_Biologie and Wikidata:Property_proposal/Archive/1#Biology_.2F_Biologie_.2F_Biologie. Since P128 is as good as P129, even if I didn´t find the discussion in the history, I moved it to Biology in the "List_of_properties" too. Please, don´t delete Property_proposals, but move them to the archive. By the way, the Sandbox is Q4115189. --Goldzahn (talk) 17:44, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Great, thanks Goldzahn. Had no idea about the archive - I assumed that would be the record in the article history?? Also, we started a Wikidata:Molecular Biology task force hoping to make it a little easier to bring in domain experts. Genewiki123 (talk)
I saw that the task force is thinking about tools. A few days ago, I saw this link [1]. I don´t know if you could use that. PS: I have no experiences with bots. --Goldzahn (talk) 19:28, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, one thing we do have extensive experience with is bots. Have a look at pygenewiki for example.
I´ve found the GeneWiki+. There are properties like Property:Is associated with disease. I would like to see such Properties in Wikidata. Is that possible? (You don´t have something like this in your Infoboxes). And, Wikidata:Phase_3 will be about queries. I have seen for example BreastCancerGenes in GeneWiki+. I think, we should have something like this in Wikidata too. I don´t know which Wikidata properties are necessary to get this, but maybe your taskforce could organize this? PS: I have added your taskforce to Wikidata:List of properties. --Goldzahn (talk) 02:27, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thats great that you found GW+! GW+ might be a great place to prototype ideas for capturing these kinds of relationships in wikidata. So yes, capturing these additional properties is a top priority for the task force. It would be great if you could join us. We need members to get going! Genewiki123 (talk)

Spambot filter[edit]

Hi, just a note that I've exempted you from the filter, sorry about that. Let me know if I can be of any assistance in the future :) Legoktm (talk) 22:12, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Legoktm Genewiki123 (talk)

Important molecular biology task force discussions[edit]

Hello, you signed up as a participant for the Molecular biology task force. As promised, we are keeping you up to date on important discussions as they arise. Currently, we are very interested in your thoughts on how orthologs are handled in Wikidata. Please chime in here if you have thoughts. There is also another discussion on whether genes and proteins should be combined in a single wikidata item or kept separate. Both these issues are critical for how we model genetic data, and it would be much better if we established solid community consensus now. Your input is appreciated!
