Familysearch

Don't forget to add the Familysearch record number for each of your biographical entries. Have you applied for free access to Newspapers.com and Fold3 through the Wikimedia Library. --RAN (talk) 18:14, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

RAN - Great idea! I really love FamilySearch and will add the IDs. I will also add FindAGrave IDs to the WikiData. I have applied for Newspapers.com and Fold3. You have have some very helpful ideas! Geni

Don't forget to create a Geni entry for each of your people, Wikidata stores the ID for Geni entries. Geni has some nice features similar to Familysearch, but Geni allows up to second cousins to view living people, once you invite them to edit the tree. Familysearch doesn't allow anyone other than the creator to view living people so any images added will not be seen by anyone unless the creator marks them as dead. I have asked LDS if they will merge dead people in the future so that images will be seen, but I not gotten a response. At Geni, a family member with editing rights can mark somone as dead and the images will be made public. RAN (talk) 18:53, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wikisource

Wikisource is also amazing, you can add news articles that are in the public domain there: Wikisource:Port Chester Daily Item/1921/Charles F. Lindauer and create a Wikidata entry for the obituary/news article. See: Charles Frederick Lindauer (1836-1921) obituary (Q84369890). You can create a Wikisource portal for each person: Wikisource:Portal:Charles Frederick Lindauer. I got a lot of resistance when I first started contributing there, things were deleted and formats changed by the old guard editors. One editor kept deleting the portals saying only "famous" people get them, without citing any actual rule. Long descriptions

One of the reasons that your Wikidata entries get targeted for deletion are the long descriptions. There is a bot that looks for them because, promotional entries have mini biographies in them. RAN (talk) 21:58, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

red links at Commons

Don't remove red links at Commons, when the category gets restored it will turn blue. For newspaper red links, just click and create the entry and link it to Wikidata. RAN (talk) 17:09, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Non notable articles
