January 2024[edit]

Hi. Noticed you are blanking what seems to be duplicate items e.g. Q17646410, Q17648215, Q17656399. It's preferable that you merge identical items instead of blanking them, but first make sure it's really the same item, some items might be slightly different. There is a merge gadget that makes this job fairly painless. Infrastruktur (talk) 22:01, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

St Bridget's Church, Baillieston[edit]

I'm puzzled by your actions on Q17536060. This was, until February this year, an item on a Norfolk castle and church. You removed all of the statements (diff) and turned the item into a Glasgow church (diff).

What were you thinking?

First, WD already had an item for the Glasgow church - 15 Swinton Road, St Bridget's Roman Catholic Church (Q17815662). Second, changing the meaning of an item is THE ONE THING YOU NEVER DO ON WIKIDATA. NEVER EVER. Once an item has been established as thing X, it stays as thing X forever. If you want to start an item on thing Y, you start a NEW ITEM. You do not destroy the thing X semantics. You do not replace the contents of one item with the semantics os a different concept.

Please do no ever do this again.

Looking briefly at your edit history, I see other edits which concern me, but which I've not yet look at in detail. It's possible I shall be back on this page again.

I have reverted your edits on Q17536060. I trust you will leave it alone. --Tagishsimon (talk) 04:57, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please see the note left above.
I didn't realize that items could be merged back then (and I sometimes failed to find items which already existed). I stoped once I was informed of the possibility, but haven't reverted all my edits (I keep accidentally skipping over items when I look over my contributions). As such, if you do notice such errors, please feel free to fix them — I'm quite grateful for it, in fact. Sorry for the trouble. HwætGrimmalkin (talk) 11:29, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
