Description

[edit]

Re [1], the way to handle this is either to just add a new description here, or add one on enwp using the template, e.g., [2]. And/or tell people on enwp not to use the wrong infobox in these articles! Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 12:20, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Mike Peel: I think it's convention on WikiProject Eurovision to not give these articles a short description, because the title is already descriptive (en:WP:SDNONE). However, adding {{Short description|none}} does not appear to be successful at overriding the infobox's short description (you can see I tried it at the bottom of the article). I also don't think that infobox is wrong; it is used for only one section of the article. I made an edit request for the infobox template to allow the short description to be removed from the template with a parameter, which I think would solve the problem. ―Jochem van Hees (talk) 12:34, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That would solve it. In general, though, articles should only have one infobox. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 13:32, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I added this picture from nlwp, using https://fist.toolforge.org/wdfist (so I do not have access to prefs of items' subjects prefs when editing) -> only to freely available media (on Commons)

If this person doesn't want his pic on wp, maybe it should be removed from Commons, where it is freely available ? and also, maybe the "stick figure" should be available instead for all projects, instead of reserving it for enwp ?

What do you think ? Hsarrazin (talk) 08:19, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Hsarrazin: Ah okay. It might indeed be a good idea starting a deletion discussion on Commons, but I'm also not sure if the image is a problem there; my concern with putting it on Wikidata was that Wikipedia often draws its images from here. It would indeed be nice to move en:File:CGP Grey stick figure.png to Commons but I don't think that's allowed because of copyright concerns. ―Jochem van Hees (talk) 11:37, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Update: I've now nominated it for deletion: commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:CGPGrey.png. ―Jochem van Hees (talk) 11:51, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Merge request

[edit]

Hello.

Can you merge the Wikidata pages "Azerbaijan in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2013" (Q15872806) and "Azerbaijan in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2013" (Q18355736)? They are about the same category.

Yours sincerely, 31.200.19.106 20:17, 28 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Gamer term in Malay

[edit]

Greetings, About the alternate term for 'gamer' in Malay that you reverted, there is an emerging word for 'game' which is 'hibira' and the consequent word formation for 'gamer' would be 'hibirawan'. The term is being used as seen here. I hope the new addition as the alternate term for gamer can be included. Thank you. Ultron90 (talk) 18:06, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for explaining! I was worried because it didn't appear in the online dictionary I used. ―Jochem van Hees (talk) 18:17, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Guilty Pleasure

[edit]

Hi, what's the point of having two separate items for the same song? On the Italian Wikipedia, we use an automated external links template that shows all the claims on the Wikidata item the article is linked to. This is an example. Merynancy (talk) 23:19, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This happens with basically all songs. The items refer to different things; one is for the composition of the song, one for the digital audio recording of that composition. For quite a few songs there are multiple tracks, which have different entries in Genius, so they all have separate items with Genius ID (P6218) statements. See Wikidata:WikiProject Music for more info.
I'm not sure what to do with the authority control template, but I think this may be something worth raising at its template talk page. You can find the recordings of the song by looking for items with recording or performance of (P2550)Guilty Pleasure (Q110966446). If there's only one recording then simply take that one's P6218. ―Jochem van Hees (talk) 23:50, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, but you can't connect anything to them since on Wikipedia the article about each song is only one. What's the point? Merynancy (talk) 08:00, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Coldplay singles

[edit]

Excuse me. There's a reason why are you moving all the Codplay singles entries into song entries? Those songs are singles and they have their outlinks on Discogs, MusciBrainz, ecc... Luca Dell'Orto (talk) 09:14, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you connecting everything to the song entries if the wiki voices are all about the singles? Luca Dell'Orto (talk) 09:15, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Luca Dell'Orto: please see Wikidata:WikiProject Music#Overview. If a Wikipedia article is about a single with only one track, or mainly discusses one track of that single, then it should be connected to the item about the composition. This is done wrong with a lot of songs, I just haven't taken the time to fix them all. ―Jochem van Hees (talk) 10:36, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But all the information about the singles? Distribution, YouTube, MusicBrainz, Discogs,... Where they end up? Luca Dell'Orto (talk) 17:55, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think in this case you're wrong. The single was published in different versions (remix, piano, ecc..), the article is not just about the song. Luca Dell'Orto (talk) 17:58, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Those remixes aren't part of the single though? They were released separately. If anything this is more of an argument against adding the wikilinks to the item for the single, because the single only contains the original version of the song. ―Jochem van Hees (talk) 18:30, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't get what you mean? The information about the singles ends up at the items for the singles. So the single Let Somebody Go (Q108914561) contains distribution, YouTube video, MusicBrainz release group and Discogs master properties, whereas the song Let Somebody Go (Q113133343) contains the MusicBrainz work property and the Wikipedia links. ―Jochem van Hees (talk) 18:25, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that the Wikipedia articles, which talk about the singles, are now linked to the song entries. All the external links of those articles, useful for the reader and related to the singles, aren’t there anymore for no reason. Luca Dell'Orto (talk) 21:22, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Those songs don’t meet the wikis notability criteria as songs but just as singles. In consequence of that, the articles are about the singles and not about the songs, so they have to be linked to the singles entries. Bye. Luca Dell'Orto (talk) 21:32, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"instance of" is not "reason for notability"... And in any case, I am following the WikiProject guidelines here, which are quite clear about where the article links should be. If you disagree, you should convince the people at Wikidata talk:WikiProject Music or Wikidata:Project chat. ―Jochem van Hees (talk) 21:36, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In that case the authority control template needs to be updated. I'll raise the issue at the template talk page I guess, if it hasn't been raised before (or if you want to do it). ―Jochem van Hees (talk) 21:34, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know how the Data project works 'cause I'm just an itwiki editor that uses wikidata for the automated links. In all my experience I've never been aware of this changes and, frankly, I don't understand them. Like other users are doing on itwiki, I'm going to add manually the links on the articles because they're important. I hope that at least the different languages articles remain linked. I apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your time. Luca Dell'Orto (talk) 10:16, 19 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
