Canary Islands part of the Portuguese Empire?[edit]

Hi JotaCartas!

I have the Canary Islands (Q5813) in my watch list and I have seen that you add to its located in the administrative territorial entity (P131) the value Portuguese Empire (Q200464) with PetScan. I don't understand why you add it or if you had some errors in the execution of your query. The element you changed refers to the autonomous community, I mean, the real administrative entity of Canary Islands. Anyway, Canary Islands was never part of the Portuguese Empire. It was a Portuguese reclamation in the past, but it wasn't part of Portugal, in any period of its history.

I imagine that probably it was an error of the query, because it is very strange. I told you that because maybe the query changed another elements that it had not to change. If it happened, good luck solving it! If you need and I have time to do something, I can help you.

I await your answer! I understand Portuguese, so if you prefer to answer me in Portuguese, any problem! I'm happy to read Portuguese, in that way I improve my reading skill.

Regards, Ivanhercaz (Talk) 21:34, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ivanhercaz, you are right. A inserted these claims based on Portuguese wikipedia pt:Categoria:Antigos territórios de Portugal, and since then i am adding also "start date" and end date". When I dont find enough references in WP.pt I am removing the "Portuguese Empire" claim. best regards --JotaCartas (talk) 13:22, 2 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
All right, I understand. It is very strange, Canary Islands, or Canárias, is in the category of Antigos territórios de Portugal in pt-wiki... I am going to remove the category to avoid the same or similar problem in the future. Thank you, JotaCartas, for your work in Wikidata and your answer! Regards, Ivanhercaz (Talk) 13:28, 2 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Country[edit]

Hi JotaCartas, I noticed you added P17 to a series of items [1]. Unless the building no longer exists, I think the current country should have preferred rank. Sample: Q23683307#P17. Shall I make a corresponding request on Wikidata:Bot requests?
--- Jura 06:13, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jura1, yes please, of course you are right, best regards, --JotaCartas (talk) 16:02, 28 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Convite: Wikidata Lab VIII[edit]

Oi! Boa noite. Joalpe (talk) 01:00, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It is my understanding that where category items exists that a Commons category would be linked there, rather than at the main topic. We have main topic and main category interrelationships to maintain the other linking, and it is my understanding that Commons maintains templates to draw those links. Have you a different understanding?  — billinghurst sDrewth 02:06, 9 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Billinghurst:, @Jheald:, @Multichill: - OK, as I understand Categories in Commons links fist with Categories in Wikidata if any. (I have reasons to think otherwise, but, in time I will explain my reasons in the "Community portal"). As I said, its OK with me, "No problemo"", best regards - --JotaCartas (talk) 16:40, 9 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Thanks for the reply, and glad that we could clear it up; it was apparent you were editing in AGF. There are some robust discussions in Wikidata:Project chat/Archive about the matter that would be worth reading.  — billinghurst sDrewth 21:15, 9 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Officer of the Order of the British Empire[edit]

@DarwIn:, hi, read and taken into account. I will be more careful.--JotaCartas (talk) 09:33, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cumprimentos. Tm (talk) 01:15, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Tm:, hi, read and taken into account. I will be more careful.--JotaCartas (talk) 09:33, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dados estruturados?[edit]

Estou aberto a outras opiniões. Possivelmente seria melhor serem so considerados no nível mais elevado? --JotaCartas (talk) 09:57, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Se estivermos a considerar a região NUTS 2, shares border with (P47) Alentejo region (Q26824) e Centro region (Q27569).

Obrigado e melhores cumprimentos, -- Ajpvalente (talk) 11:46, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question about fort Diamant[edit]

Hi,

By any chance, do you have a reference for this diff Special:Diff/704946618 you made on Fort Diamant (Q3077844)?

Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 19:27, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@VIGNERON, Hi, sorry, but I just saw this message today. I have found no references and maybe it was my mistake to classify it as "Heritage of Portuguese Influence". I am going to revert, Regards JotaCartas (talk) 14:15, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks and better late than never ;) Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 19:02, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Tm (talk) 23:53, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Tm, OK de acordo JotaCartas (talk) 00:27, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Pagina WikiProject Ships[edit]

WikiProject Ships

Ex: HMS Spur (P265)[edit]

I see you have added an English alias to HMS Spur (Q535817) of 'ex. HMS Spur (P265)'. I think that would be better placed as a Portuguese alias to counterpoint the name there NRP Narval. It reads wrongly that an alias to HMS Spur is ex HMS Spur. Vicarage (talk) 07:23, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

OK , I agree, thank you for advice JotaCartas (talk) 07:37, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguators in labels[edit]

Hi! I reverted a changed you made to Guiné (Q113648248) because you included parenthetical disambiguators in the label. See Label for more help in how to write good labels. Bovlb (talk) 04:16, 30 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, I will take the instructions in mind JotaCartas (talk) 06:10, 30 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please note that disambiguation belongs in the description (see Help:Label#Disambiguation_information_belongs_in_the_description). That means that you should not add parantheses etc. to labels. Hjart (talk) 16:09, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No spaces in Royal Navy pennants[edit]

Could you stop adding spaces to RN pennant numbers. They might have have originally had full stops, but that was dropped in favour of no spacing, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pennant_number and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(ships) Vicarage (talk) 01:58, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

hi, I think I reset everything I had changed, thanks JotaCartas (talk) 02:51, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Surname/Commons category batches[edit]

Your batch trying to link surnames items to Commons categories is causing errors. You are not validating that the item is a surname before linking. See Avital (Q61718103) for an example. William Graham (talk) 04:35, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I have a complete list of the batch procedure. I found so far about 35 erros that I will correct very soon. Thanks for advising me. JotaCartas (talk) 13:52, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Roman nomina[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you added a commons link to "Tuccius (surname)" to Tuccius (Q53858358), but ancient Roman nomina (and cognomina) are not surnames/family names so such links should not be used on their items. Please be aware of this in the future. Thank you for your good work. StarTrekker (talk) 18:47, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Call for participation in a task-based online experiment[edit]

Dear JotaCartas,

I hope you are doing well,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I am working on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender model that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our model based on your previous edits.

Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published in a research venue.

The experiment should take no more than 15 minutes, and it will be held next week.

If you agree to participate in this study, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfA1wfdBfCRlcG3WhDyc-V8lzgPNx3fDFCNXkyn4CSwahXZ_A/viewform?usp=sf_link

Then, I will contact you with the link to start the study.

For more information about my project, please read this post: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Kholoudsaa

In case you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me through my mentioned email.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.
