Welcome to Wikidata, Kreuz Elf!

Wikidata is a free knowledge base that you can edit! It can be read and edited by humans and machines alike and you can go to any item page now and add to this ever-growing database!

Need some help getting started? Here are some pages you can familiarize yourself with:

  • Introduction – An introduction to the project.
  • Wikidata tours – Interactive tutorials to show you how Wikidata works.
  • Community portal – The portal for community members.
  • User options – including the 'Babel' extension, to set your language preferences.
  • Contents – The main help page for editing and using the site.
  • Project chat – Discussions about the project.
  • Tools – A collection of user-developed tools to allow for easier completion of some tasks.

Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask on Project chat. If you want to try out editing, you can use the sandbox to try. Once again, welcome, and I hope you quickly feel comfortable here, and become an active editor for Wikidata.

One has instance of (P31)type of chemical entity (Q113145171), the other has instance of (P31)group of stereoisomers (Q59199015). It means that the first describe a chemical entity in which configuration of all stereogenic centres is defined, in the latter configuration of at least one stereocentre is not defined. In fact, alpha-L-Fucp-(1->3)-[beta-D-Galp-(1->4)]-beta-D-GlcpNAc (Q27126603) should be a subclass of alpha-L-Fucp-(1->3)-[beta-D-Galp-(1->4)]-D-GlcpNAc (Q27131746). In both items, only one identifier was problematic (CAS RN), so I am surprised by your statement that the items appeared to be duplicates when all the other identifiers and structural notations were different. Hi Wostr. Do we need to be that specific about subclasses? As anomers of free hydroxy group sugars are in equilibrium I see this as an arbitrary demarcation. As I view it, the WD objects should follow the CAS numbers of the compounds. In that regard we have two: One describes the open chain form (which would normally also just exist in equilibrium when in aqueous solution) and the closed form. As you can not separate such compounds from each other, I don't see a reason for several WD objects.--Kreuz Elf (talk) 08:39, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We have tens of thousands of items like this, each have different external-IDs, each is notable enough per WD guidelines to be included in WD. Merging of items is not an option here, because you'd end up with an item with several external-IDs to entries about different structures. Excluding 'groups of stereoisomers' from WD would require a proper discussion on a WD-level, not here. Right now, these entries must remain separate. Wostr (talk) 14:31, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, ok but I think in that case the external IDs might have been mixed up before my merge in addition. How can we perform a proper separation now to get back to an acceptable status?--Kreuz Elf (talk) 18:38, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what you mean by saying acceptable status? Before your edits, there was only one constraint violation with CAS RN, where the correct action should be to check the record and appropriately set the rank/delete the statement, not merge of items. These types of errors are common and are a result of importing data from external sources. I don't see any other inaccuracies here. Wostr (talk) 22:45, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
