New OpenRefine reconciliation service

1

Hi!

Thank you for wearing the {{User loves OpenRefine}} userbox on your user page!

Because the existing Wikidata reconciliation service has had severe performance issues recently, I have created a new one which should be faster and more robust. You can add it to OpenRefine in the reconciliation dialog with the following URL: https://wikidata.reconci.link/en/api (or by replacing en by any other language code).

If you have any issues with this new service, let me know.

Happy reconciling! − Pintoch (talk)

Hello again, please note that former members who died several years ago may not be listed in AE's database, so please don't remove sourced statements such as this one: Special:Diff/921586927. Thanks.

@Axolotl Nr.733 Hello, I have removed statements from people that do not have an "AE member ID" property, as all of these ID's were matched and are in Wikidata, and they represent all members of AE, note that while having a source they can be incorrect, such as Q18761925, who has a source(that doesn't mention AE), but he isn't in AE, same thing goes for Q55997845. Academia Europaea database also has all deceased members: https://www.ae-info.org/ae/Acad_Main/List_of_Members (just click the checkbox "deceased").

From the three reverts, only Q58207649 is a correct revert, which I am sorry for and will try to not make mistakes like those, but for the others please re-revert the edits.

What leads you to the conclusion that the database is all-inclusive? Did you read the source used in the case of H. C. Darby (an obituary published by the British Academy)? If so, what makes you doubt its validity?

In the case of Vallega, several issues of the AE's newletter list him as a committee member of AE'S social sciences section (https://www.ae-info.org/attach/Acad_Main/Publications/Newsletter/tree15.pdf).

These are just two examples I happen to have researched before. Based on this, I'm sure there are several other deceased members not listed in the database.

Niko.georgiev (talkcontribs)

Okay, I will agree with you on Vallega, overlooked that one.But H. C. Darby obituary is published by the British Academy and does not mention Academia Europaea, hence me doubting that he was a member. Also the only thing I'm doing is syncing AE's database with Wikidata, therefore I can't know that someone is or isn't a member when he isn't in the database, and since the organization in question is the pan-European Academy of sciences, I thought they would care to have a complete database of their former and current members.I will not be doing anymore adding or removing since that apparently isn't the case, only thing I will be doing from now on is fixing glaring mistakes like duplications, thanks.

Niko.georgiev (talkcontribs)

Correction, read the obituary and you are correct! Thanks for pointing the stuff out.

Axolotl Nr.733 (talkcontribs)

Tank you for your cooperation. I should've told you the page number in the obituary, would've made researching it quicker for you.

Additionally, the database may also be missing former members who left AE, quitting their membership. I know an example of a former member whose data set seems to have been deleted (Christian (Wichmann) Matthiessen - doesn't seem to have a WD entry yet). So we shouldn't rely on the database too much, at least concerning who hasn't been a member.

Sure can do, I just need to familiarize myself with templates since I don't work with Wikipedia, but I'll do it some time!

There seems to be an apparent duplicate as regards the Shaw Prize in Bruce Beutler item. ~~~~

Niko.georgiev (talkcontribs)

That is correct, I'm about to remove the duplicates, there are about 20 of these. Thanks!
