Q6495391 and "Époque contemporaine"

[edit]

I don't understand why you don't want to link this item to fr:Époque_contemporaine. It's not about translation, it's about the content of the articles: the French article refers to a period that roughly starts in 1789, until nowadays. Isn't it equivalent to the descriptions of Q6495391 and its properties (in particular, it follows Q5308718)? I would appreciate more explanations than just "it's very clear". "Late modern period" is a largely made-up term. It's a misunderstanding of how the term "modern period" is defined (it's usually defined as 1800-today nowadays, but it still varies a bit). Ask any academic historian. Peter Isotalo (talk) 01:13, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you think the item is somehow wrong, look for the way to, at least, not left sitelinks without a wikidata item and fix all uses this item has in Wikidata. And if these are significant changes please ask first somewhere. I restored the item to original state. Sorry. —Ismael Olea (talk) 06:18, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Olea, your reaction here is going against WikiDatas purpose of merely reflecting content in the projects. If you want to engage in that, you're welcome to join the discussions there. But you can't use WikiData to push neologisms against historiographical consensus.
If you are concerned about orphaned items, find more suitable alternatives, preferably by discussing it. You can't just restore unrelated items because you think it feels wrong to remove it. Peter Isotalo (talk) 08:52, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand your point of view. I'm not talking about how this period is named. I'm talking about the Wikidata item being linked to to French WP article (it might be the case with other languages, but I speak about what I know).
Q6495391 describes a period that starts ~1789/1800 and doesn't end (so, still applicable nowadays). The French article refers to the same thing. So they should be linked, that's all. I'm not into an argument to know if it's a "made-up term". even if it's not a historic reality, it refers to something widely accepted in common speech. — Pharma 💬 18:21, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
